The app must be in the foreground in order to work. Honestly, its quicker for me to just type my password in, rather than unlock the phone then open the app to the foreground. Unless you have incredibly long passwords its not entirely useful.

Im always in a power struggle to get my son off the computer...well NOT any longer!!! Fantastic invention-love it!!!! Thanx so much for creating this life saver

I have tried several other ‘use your iPhone to unlock your Mac’ apps. None of them have worked for me. This one does and excellent job, at least for me using iPhone 6s and Macbook Pro Retina

I have sent a heads up to all my friends that have Macs and iPhones about this app. If you work in an office where folks have access to your machine when youre not around you never have to think about, nor touch anything to lock and unlock your computer. Really very nice and practical!

Works great, but often have to restart it and/or my Bluetooth. It just keeps shutting down on y laptop so it no longer works until I launch the app again. Very annoying.

It’s great when it works - which isn’t that often. Most times the devices fail to see each other. Want my money back for a faulty product.

Im often up and down from my desk at work and was sick of entering in my password on my Mac each time. This app works great. Setup involved restarting my Bluetooth a few times but once I got it going it works pretty well. Ive been in contact with the company about potential new features and they were really friendly to deal with.

Nearlock is an amazing app which I use daily. The app is very simple and quite easy. Would love to see further improvements, the ability to open not only macbooks but also ipad.

Update: March 28 2016 Seems like they have fixed all the connectivity issues. Has been working well for a few days without disconnecting. Happy they got this sorted! *** When it works I like it, but I find the connection still drops all the time and I have to disconnect and reconnect.

Replacing something you know (your password) with something you have (your phone) is weakening your overall security. You gain as your Mac always locks itself when you walk away (unless you had a hot corner set to start your login screen with password lock), but anyone with your phone unlocks it… I like the option to enable TouchID on the iPhone before it allows unlocking on the Mac, so the Mac does not unlock by mere presence of the phone. It requires me & my finger (or you took the time to forge it, longer than just walking by). I also like that you can disable rapidly Near Lock from the Mac with 2 mouse clicks. I tend to use Near Lock during the day at work when I move in and out a lot, and turn it off when I know I’ll be away from the computer for a long time, for the night, when I travel… Oh, it works without installer (drag-n-drop the Mac app in the Application folder), which is great in these day & time where so many applications comes with an installer wanting your admin password to start with. It has a simple but beautiful UI, it is easy to use, and so far has been reliable. A really great product.

This app does what it says it does. Its design and aesthetics are beautifully inline with iOS and is just a stunning and functional app. Aside from a few minor concerns like battery, staying in the memory, its overall a great application. The aforementioned concerns, however, most likely cannot be addressed by the developer since they are kind of a hardware limitation rather than the applications fault. I have an iPhone 6, so it only has 1 gigabyte of memory rather than the newer phones that have 2. Keep it up, man. I heard you were a solo developer that manages all the roles (developer, support, etc.) best of luck in the future. Youre a boss!

Completely amazing

I love the concept, and when it works its awesome. However often Ill just close the clamshell of my MacBook when Im done with it or need to travel. When I open it up again NearLock seems to have a hard time quickly connecting. Its faster for me to just retype my passcode in. It works great when I leave my MacBook open on the desk and walk away. And I imagine probably pretty good for desktop computers like iMac or Mac Pro.

I love this app, work well it doing what it have to do!

I found out about this app on Reddit, decided to give it a go and fell instantly in love with it! The PRO version is almost essential as it allows for the app to work in the background. This saves me so much time as I am constantly unlocking my MBP throughout the day.

This is the most reliable of the remote unlock apps that I have used, and I have tried them all. Very well done!
